While this was the birthplace of the plant, many other countries are now growing their own variant of the leaf. Not much has changed since the tea’s discovery over 4000 years ago. Today, it is still being used for consumption, as well as for medicinal purposes. One thing that has changed, is the popularity of the tea. But in truth, there’s great rewards for those who pick it up as their favorite choice of beverage.

The tea itself, has a very light odor to it. Some have compared the scent to chestnuts, or a few distinct flowers. It smells natural, but isn’t intrusive. Unlike black tea, it is translucent for the most part. It varies from a modest hint of light green, to a much denser light green color.

Depending on the quality of the plant, they can benefit the consumer in a number of ways. Early on in the tea’s discovery, it was often used for its healing properties with wounds. Most people today enjoy it because of the antioxidants found in the tea’s makeup. These same antioxidants have also been known to help rid that left over feeling from alcohol consumption.

Another popular reason is that it helps combat fatigue. People who drink the green tea on a regular basis, usually have more energy as a result. This can also lead to a potential reduction in fat, and weight loss. Some evidence even suggests there’s ties to lowering the risk of heart disease, and cancer, as a result of frequent consumption.

These are just a few of the great qualities that stem from this miracle leaf. With all these benefits of drinking green tea, it’s no wonder that it has been under wraps for so many centuries. This may just be China’s best kept secret yet.
